National Rum Day

August 16

What is National Rum Day?

National Rum Day, celebrated every year on August 16, is a tropical little toast to one of the world’s most famous spirits. Rum has a long history tied to sugarcane, Caribbean islands, sailors, pirates, and plenty of beachy vacation vibes. Basically, it’s the kind of day that makes you want to put on a Hawaiian shirt, cue up some island music, and pretend your backyard is a resort.

Rum comes in all kinds of styles, from light and crisp to dark, rich, and spiced. It has been used in classic cocktails, desserts, marinades, and even cozy baked treats. But National Rum Day does not have to be just about drinks. You can celebrate the flavor and tropical spirit with rum-inspired foods, pineapple mocktails, coconut desserts, pirate-themed parties, island playlists, or a Caribbean-style dinner night.

For adults 21 and over, it can be a day to enjoy rum responsibly. For everyone else, it’s still a great excuse to go full tropical with fruity mocktails, rum-flavored extracts in baking, beachy decorations, and maybe even a pirate movie marathon. Arrr you ready to celebrate?
